To my ears Evil Drums sounds more gritty than Avatar, a little less obviously processed and (dodgy description alert) more organic.

    Thanks for your reply.

It’s funny that you used ‘organic’ because that’s one of those hard to define terms, but it is a word I would use to describe what I’m looking for for this particular project. Kinda like I’d say the Custom & Vintage samples sound more organic than Avatar (those are by far my favorite and most used samples, just not of use for this particular project)

It’s also nice to hear you say that the Evil Drums samples sound a little less obviously processed, because that would be my major complaint with the New York libraries – they sound amazing, just a little too ‘produced’ for much of my music. I like things to sound a little ‘dirtier’.

I thought about trying a plug-in like PSP Vintage Warmer on the drum bus to warm them up but it’d be nice to just get the right samples for the job to begin with.

It’s nice to have so many options now. Keep it up Toontrack!

    Cheers, Jeremy.

To my ears Evil Drums is a rockier version of C&V, obviously applicable to the current music sound and offering two different room sounds (whereas C&V is pretty dry).
I know Baressi used eq and worked in the same way he does when on an actual tracking session, but the drums just sound more natural than Avatar to me.

    Thanks for that.

Yeah I love the sound of C&V and, contrary to what a lot of people seem to feel, I actually love how dry it is too. It makes it perfect for some things; not right for other projects.

If Evil Drums is a rockier version of that I’ll definitely have to pick it up. Incidentally, Joe Baressi has been involved with some of my favorite albums, particularly the more recent Bad Religion records, so I guess it’s sort of a no-brainer for me.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

    Cheers,
    Jeremy.

Good info. I love C&V and the less processed sounds. Also love DFH1, but not the slow loading times 🙁 Anywho.. just ordered Evil Drums SDX, so looking forward to testing driving the more ‘rockier version of C&V’ 🙂 I jumped on the sweetwater %50 off sale.

Yeah, today is the last day for that sale, I believe.
Run, don’t walk, folks. This is a great expansion pack.

EDIT: See Rail’s post below. The sale runs through March 15. My bad. (thanks, Rail!)
