Question about TDW-20 expansion/MIDI data sent from module

I have been curious about this for a while. I have a “plain old” Roland TD-20 module without the expansion card. I have been wondering if the TDW-20 expansion card would actually improve the MIDI data sent for my VH-12 hi-hats or if it just improves how it sounds in the module? On that note, will MIDI data for all drums improve at all with the expansion or is the improvement all internal? Thanks guys.
