Hi, I’m new on the forums, and new to e-drums, but all the info on the site has been extremely helpful so thanks to everyone who contributes it helps more people than you know! (Also you guys come with some impressive stuff and kudos). I had a question about a dual zone ride (bell and cymbal itself) and am of course limited by the amount of inputs on the brain I’m using (Alesis IO to track into logic 8 with battery and various VSTs). Anyway my concern is i wanted to put a piezo on the bell and cymbal and thought i had to use 1 cable for each and 1 input for each. I was wondering if it was possible to use 1 cable for both ( maybe having the RCAs in the same box) or using a y cable or something, or if a stereo cable would do it. I’m pretty new to all this and am building my 1st kit out of a vintage ludwig 6 piece as i love direct line tracking, editing and am plagued by noise complaints in my apartment. Any help on the issue would be extremely appreciated. Thanks for taking a read and thanks for all the posts on the board once again.

you can plug your dual zone cymbal onto one input of your i/o alesis… you have to setup the input… (the module input has to be setup for piezo/piezo pad…check your user’s manual) you have to use a stéreo cable (three wires )and a stereo jacks
tip of the jack : ceramic part of the bow piezo
sleeve : yellow part of the bow and bell piezo
ring : ceramic part of the bell piezo
you can invert the wires on the bow piezo (tip : yellow part of bow piezo and sleeve to the ceramic part of the bow piezo) if you feel it works better like that (roland pads are wired liked that for their dual pad and cymbal zones)
it should work like that…
ok sweet, thanks for the quick reply. do you think you could explain the wiring a bit more i’m pretty bad at this. So am how many rca jacks am i using? how many cables? and are the RCA/cables stereo or mono? Thanks again for the help!

rca is a mono plug…
there are 10 input + hh control…(without main output…) so 11 cables…2.5 ,3 meters each choose directly cables which have three wires into for each even if you plan to build a mono pad… one day you will want to change and the cable will be good for a multizone pad…
for jacks : stéreo jack (they’ve got three rings)
if you can, change your rca plug and replace them by stéreo jack female connector…and use stereo jack/stereo jack cables
you need one rca for a mono pad or cymbal without choke
rca you need two rca for dual zone pads or cymbals… so there will be two connector for one cymbal… st jack
jack: rca bow rca bell
sleeve sleeve sleeve
ring tip
tip tip
so, 11 cables and 22 stereo jacks plug
ok awesome- i appreciate it. that makes a ton of sense now. One more question if any one is familiar, i was debating doing internal triggers or buying something like the pulse red hots. If anyone knows if you can use the piezo cymbals with the red hots on the drum with the alesis trigger I/O it would help. And also if you guys think internal is better than external triggering–and finally where to get the foam for the internals (it seems like something easy to find but when i think about it i’m not sure where to go!) Thanks alot for all the help with everything and keep up the good work.
