Problems when loop recording drum patterns

When I try to record in a loop. It never plays the last thing I recorded until after I stop playback and then start recording again. I’m trying to “loop record” where you start with one drum, and then wait for the loop to come around again, and then add another item, and so on, until you’ve built a pattern.
