Hi there.
Iam working on my first e-drum kit.
I have to choose a soundmodule. What do you think? Do you need positional sensing or not?
I think only Roland TD-12 and TD20 can send positional sensing over midi?
But superior drummer seems to change the tune/type of sound every time the sound was triggered.
So iam not sure if I have to buy a TD20? (I don’t need the sounds of the module)
Thanks,
Roelli.
TD-8/9/10 also transmit positional sensing data over MIDI. Not sure off the top of my head what Yamaha modules do too, but you seem interested in Roland so hopefully this extra info is of help.
As far as what it does, essentially, for libraries that ship with both center and edge articulations on the snare, you’ll be able to trigger one or the other depending on where you hit your pad. Whether that is a ‘must-have’ feature for you you’ll have to decide for yourself 😉

Ah, ok. Didn’t knew that the TD 8,9,10 supports positional sensing. So only the TD12 and TD20 have the sampling-sounds that works with positional sensing?
Just bought a TD20.
@Rouge- I called Roland in Richmond BC and they told me that the TD-9 does not send CC info for anything but the hi-hat. They did not have one there to test, but they told me they were 99.9% sure that the TD-9 would not have positional sensing for the snare drum when used with midi triggered software. Do you know for sure that the TD-9 sends positional sensing info for the snare?
Thanks,
yesman

I am sure only the Roland PD105 pads and upwards work for positional sensing,it is not just the module that is important.
Hi,
I can tell u that the old pd 9 roland rubber pads work with pos sensing also. Using right now!^^

I don’t think it’s positional but Dual>
From Rolands info
“PD9 Featuring Roland’s groundbreaking dual-trigger technology, the 10-inch PD-9 and 7-inch PD-7 drum pads can accurately trigger separate sounds from head and rim. A built-in Forced Sensor Resistor lets you “choke” these pads when used as cymbals.”

Thanks D !
Yes Lugnut is right !
Amazing to see Roland’s TD11 and TD15 don’t support Pos Sensing-
Hardline from them forcing people to older modules or only the TD30.
