My drummer uses a Roland TD3 and the module is a bit, “meh”. We’re looking into using Superior Drummer 2 as the sound module. We’ll take the TD3 and run the MIDI into my laptop then run Superior Drummer 2 Solo on it and ouput via my Line 6 Gearbox DI G. That’ll give us a stereo out with ASIO drivers and a portable setup.
My question is, Can you change patches via MIDI or some programmable method? I asked this of Addictive Drums and the answer was regrettably no.
What we’d like to do is for example, change the drums from a Lo-fi sound to a full kit and then to a kit with lots of ambience with the tap of a footswitch, drum pad, or some other MIDI device. Roland’s nice modules can do this with “chains” and such but we don’t have $6K.
I don’t care about switching Drum Samples themselves though I hear Superior Drummer loads samples pretty fast. We’ll keep the same drums. We just want to swap the EQ/comp and mixer presets on the fly for what I think would be a nearly instantaneous change.
In recording, we can automate the controls individually I’m sure. But assigning a patch or preset would be a easy way to change on the fly with a single click or command during a live performance.
Hi,
and thank you for your interest in Superior 2.
The instrument plugin itself can not be automated in this manner, neither the Toontrack solo host.
If you use another host that can be automated via some trigger and set up the outputs of the plugin cleverly, you should be able to achieve those results.
Best Regards,
John

It’s been about 7 months since I asked this question. Has there been any change?
I’m saving up for a TD20 but am considering a laptop and midi converters instead.
Can you change patches via a MIDI command yet?
Thanks.
no – and we have no plans to do so in the immediate future. Mid to long term, yes, possibly.

Necro-ing this thread, it’s 13 years old! Has there been any update to this?
I want to use my TD-27 module’s control knobs to change parameters in SD3.
ie. Hit a drum, then twist the “instrument” knob to send midi CC to SD3 to change the instrument being triggered, different snare drums, toms, bass drum etc.
Is this possible?
