Hi,
I’m using the “Rock foundry / Toontrack /Hurricane” preset.
I also use the “stereo reverse mixer” option so that I listen to the drum from the audience perspective.
My hi hat track balance is automatically reversed, which is expected.
But its bleeding sound through the overhead stays panned as if it still was in the drummer perspective. So it feels like two sets of Hi hats are playing on opposites the sides of the drum.
It’s hard to tell if the whole OH keeps its original panning despite the “stereo reverse mixer” (the other elements feel pretty far away, as expected) but it seems to be the case.
How come then the OH doesn’t follow the SRM?
What am I missing?
I can’t be sure and it’s hard to tell because I’m in a middle of a project but I think it doesn’t happen with all the presets. I kind of remember that using the SRM can be a hit or miss when it comes to the Hi hat/OH, some presets keeping the hat bleed/OH in its original position.
Can someone tell me the logic behind this, if any?
Sure, if all the OH is inverted, I could swap the balance positions but it defeats the SRM purpose (and I would still be clueless about the reason it is the way it is).
And not sure if I should do the same with all the ambiances then.
PS: there is no effect on the OH track so it can’t be the result of any transformation.
PPS: I’ haven’t bounced the drum. I’m just listening it in real time (I read someone else’s topic asking why his OH were inverted after a bounce which seems to be a problem that hasn’t been solved yet, or at least it wasn’t at that point. This is not the case here anyway)
This may be caused by a bug that makes the level meters don’t follow the stereo reversing. So if you stereo reverse, the audio should be correct (the hi-hat will sound more in the right channel in OH for example) but the left level meter will still show a higher level than the right. So I think it’s a visual thing, not how the audio sounds.
Can you check that my assumption is correct?
We will fix this bug in a coming update!

Thanked by: BaylockHi and thanks for your reply.
I hear both hi hats on the opposite sides of the drums.
So it is not a visual thing, it’s clearly about what I’m listening to.
Several presets have this behavior.
Isn’t it about the buses?
Are the orange buses supposed to follow the SRM? I suppose they should. But they don’t.
Maybe you (or anyone) should try the hurricane preset and tell me if the hat in the OH bus follows the SRM when activated?
I’m talking about the sound, not the visual.
I insist, the vast majority of the presets sound just fine. And even those who have the problem sound fine without the SRM. So it doesn’t feel like an installation problem.
Thanks.
To me, the stereo image flips on all channels, including the bus named OH, when using Stereo Reverse Mixer. I can clearly hear it if I solo the hi-hat in the Drums page, and also solo the OH bus in the mixer (so only the hi-hat is audible in the OH channel).
Do you get the same results if you start a fresh copy Superior, load the Hurricane preset, and stereo reverse? Is it the same in standalone as in a DAW? Are you running the latest version of SD3 (3.1.2)?
