I have a musical theater gig coming up that needs a lot of timpani. I have a TD-50 kit, and would love to use your SDX for the performances. There are a couple of pieces that use 3-4 drums and have pitch changes. Would you have suggestions of how I could go about arranging this? I haven’t purchased the SDX yet, as I want to make sure it’ll work for this sort of situation. I’m already using SD3 and Hitmaker with my drums, so I’m fine with interfaces and such. Thanks in advance,
Brandon
Hi,
the Orchestral SDX Timpani are sampled from Eb1 to Bb2. If you only need the Timpani, there’s a couple of presets with only Timpani to start from and make your note assignment adjustments.
If you need the Timpani added to your kit with regular drums, I suggest you set up the regular kit Instruments first, then add the Timpani tunings you need as Added Instruments and find note assignments for them outside the range of your regular kit. Easiest would be extra pads and as many as you need tuned notes. You also have both Open and Mute articulations for the Timpani.

Ok, this sounds reasonable. As a follow up, is there a way to quickly change pitches through something like kit changes on my TD-50? I usually us just one setup for a gig, but with all of the different keys/pitches I’ll need, a speedy change would be great. Thanks!
