I’m trying out EZ Drummer 2, using it with Reaper. I want to create a custom pattern from the ground up, using the virtual midi keyboard in Reaper (well, actually using the physical keys on the PC keyboard). I have two problems – firstly I can’t find any key which maps to the kick drum. However the main problem is that I can’t get quantizing to work….
If I tap out and record a basic beat on the snare in real time it sounds more-or-less decent. If I then quantize it (1/4, 1/8 or 1/16) it completely messes up the rhythm – i.e. I was hoping that it would time-correct it but instead stretches it completely out of time. Have I missed something?
Hi,
Kick would be ‘Z’, Snare ‘X’ with the Default virtual keyboard.
Are you recording to a Metronome in Reaper? I.e. are you tapping your beat to the Reaper internal tempo?
If not, Quantizing will place your notes completely out of time.

Ah recording with the Reaper metronome seems to be the secret – thanks.
Still no luck with the kick drum though – the Z key triggers the open hi-hat. N and M both trigger the snare.
????
I just discovered that I needed to use the arrow keys in Reaper to transpose the virtual midi keyboard to the correct range for the EZ Drummer kit. Doh!
