Hello,
My name is Arthur and I am the drummer of progressive instrumental metal band Sioum based out of Chicago (Dorian is my brother).
I am on a deadline for my next album release and need answers fast so I can purchase the proper expansions… I Am Looking For Specific Drums & Cymbals In The Superior Line.
We plan on using Superior to program my drum parts in order to achieve the perfection we want with the 70 minutes of music that we have written in the last 5 years. My apologies, but I found that there is no number and no email support… only this forum. So I have multiple questions and hope that they are all answered and clarified for me because I’m a noob to Superior’s products.
Firstly, I want to make sure I have the best raw (unedited in any way) drums & cymbals from Superior. And I was wondering which of the Expansions contain the raw samples that will most closely resemble my current playing kit. So I will ask questions on the fly as I go down the list in a systematic way. Thank you very much in advance for you time.
My Kit is as follows…
~ The Drums ~
Twisted Blue Onyx FinishPly™ jazz shells with triple flange hoops
DW 16X23 Bass Drum (Thanks to Neil Peart, and I do realize there will mostly be standard sizes sampled in which case i don’t mind using a 16×22 Bass Drum)
(I play with iron cobra wooden beaters)
[Question 1: Are their wooden beater options for all of the bass drums they sampled?]
DW 16X16 Floor Tom
DW 11X13 Mid Tom
DW 10X12 High Tom
(All of these shells are a blend of 50% maple and 50% gum wood)
[Question 2: Which Superior Kit has the best sounding maple and/or gum wood drums that are tight-sounding, but resonate, and sing well like my DW kit?]
My snare is the oddball of the kit, but fits very well with our sound…
Ludwig 5X14 Black Beauty with Supra-Phonic Snares
[Question 3: Which Superior expansion has the black beauty?]
[Question 4: My drums all have Evans g2 clear heads and the snare has g2 coated… Can I pick different head types in Superior between the Snare and other Drums?]
[Question 5: Will the fact that, most of the Superior expansions have been recorded at different studios, with different rooms, and mics, be greatly noticeable when mixing and matching them together? The same question will apply for mixing and matching cymbals… I’m worried that if I combine the avatar kit with let’s say 2 cymbals from Metal Foundry and 2 cymbals from Music City, there will be weird inconsistencies between velocities, and on overheads, etc.]
~ The Cymbals ~
14″ Zildjian K Custom Dark Hi-hats
17″ Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash
17″ Zildjian K Custom Dark China
18″ pAiSTe RUDE China
20″ pAiSTe RUDE Ride/Crash (I ride the bell a lot on this cymbal for a few songs)
[Question 6: Which Superior expansions have these cymbals, if any of them, or similar sounding ones?]
My final question is generally concerning the different sounds and avant-garde techniques that were sampled.
For instance… in this video ~ https://youtu.be/M26axWijlPU?t=41s ~ you’ll see me clicking on the rims of my high tom, mid tom, bass drum, snare drum, and sometimes floor tom.
I also do many cymbal rolls with sticks and with felt mallets, and play on the bell on my crash, hi-hats, and ride/crash.
[Question 7: Which Superior expansion has any/or all of these sounds? And if they don’t have let’s say, proper crescendos, can one achieve a crescendo by other means?]
Once again, Thank you very much for any and all help,
I appreciate everyone’s time,
Arthur Zdrinc

Thank you very much gseshleman!
Do you know if it will be ok to mix and match between these two you mentioned and maybe the avatar kit?
Thank you very much,
Yes, you can mix & match kit pieces in SuperiorDrummer using X-drums
(if you purchase the The Metal Foundry SDX and The Rock WareHouse expansions).
