I have played acoustic drums in the past and have decided to take the plunge and try out edrums (to keep noise levels down at home). I got a used Yamaha DTXtreme IIs. I have it set up and working (barring a couple of minor hitches). I would like to take the next step and connect it to a computer to get better sounds using VSTs like superior drummer. I have purchased Superior drummer and should get it in a day or two. I have a Windows 7 laptop with 4gigs RAM along with a Lexicon Alpha USB unit. Have downloaded Reaper version 4.22. Was wondering if anyone can point me to a “VST for Dummies” where I can learn how to load all the software correctly and how to hook up the computer to the DTXtreme IIs module and get it all working so that i can get the drum sounds from the Superior Drummer. I am a newbie at all this electronics/MIDI stuff and any help would be appreciated.
OK I have installed Superior Drummer and Metal Foundry and got them authorized and working. However when I go to Option MIDI Devices it says no device found. I hooked up the module to the computer both via USB as well through a Presonus AudioBox 22VSL (MIDI out from module to Presonus MIDI in and USB from Presonus to the Laptop) and neither work. Any idea how to get my computer to see the Yamaha DTXtreme IIs module? Do I have to load any drivers. It is a Dell Latitude laptop running Windows 7 32 bit.
I am not using reaper but….
In reaper(your host) you load SD2(au) as a midi instrument or on a midi track and your midi should be talking to SD2 via settings made in reaper and your computer not in SD2.
When you said you got SD2 working ,was that within reaper as an instrument or standalone ?
Made a lot of progress. Got the latest drivers fro my presonus, loaded them, pick the Midi drivers in toon track and am finally able to get sound when I hit my drums. The main issue left to resolve is to get the right sound with the right drum. When I hit the first, second and third tom I seem to get the right drum in toontrack solo. When I hit the 4th tom it triggers the 3rd tom in solo. How do I map the drum to the 4th tom in solo? Also my snare seems to trigger the snare as well as a cymbal in solo. How do I fix these issues? If you can point me the right direction I can read it up.
Check the latest S2 manual chapter 7.1 ‘Pad Assignments’ for how to assign sounds to pads.

My original computer that I had toontracks installed on had failed. For my replacement laptop computer, I went to your website and got a new computer ID, AAJZS-W5MRU-CVM, and auth code, YCXT-SBFC-CX8W-WEGY, by email. I used these to download the software but when I try to open toontrack tool, it says that my computer is not authorized to run ezdrummer and shows a different computer ID, PWMQX-5RRGF-C16. Then I uninstalled all and reinstalled – still same problem. Please help, I have emailed Toontracks twice and have gotten back what appears to be canned answers.
thanks,
John
