Hi everyone, I’m new here. So I’m a guitarist and just bought a roland TD-9 with superior drummer 2.0 and I need help. First, here’s my setup:
-I run my TD9 into a M-audio 2626 profire (midi out of my td9 to midi in of my profire. Do I also need a midi cable going out of my m-audio to the in of the drum?) and the profire is connected to my computer with firewire.
-Pro Tools 8 is my software.
Now, here are my questions:
Choke Cymbals:
I can’t make it work in SD 2.0, although it works in my td9 when playing in standalone. I’ve made hours of research, tried everything but it still won’t work. I’m a novice with midi, roland drums and SD 2.0 and I would need a step by step tutorial to understand how to make it work.
Drum mapping
Everything works fine and sound good, although I can’t get much nuances. If I click on the keyboard notes in the maping section with the mouse, I get all kinds of nuances on the different parts of the drums (ex. closed hi hat, open hi-hat, edge of cymbals etc) but when I hit the hi hat, whether it’s closed or opened, I get the same sound. The snare seems to be working ok since I can get all the rim shots and stuff, but just by the way my hi-hat is setup I know that there’s something missing in my mapping. Also all I can get is louder sound/volume if I hit really hard on the pads or lower volume if I hit softer (so I get 2 different volumes) , but I’m sure that there’s a way to get better nuances and mapping. I have no idea how to do proper mapping, please help!
Sorry for my bad english and hopefully someone can help me!
To start, in Pro Tools MIDI setup make sure to disable filtering of the poly aftertouch messages (which is the default).

The first thing I would do is make sure to try the ‘edrum’ preset. Make sure you have updated Superior to the latest version 2.2.1. Go to the ‘mapping tab’ and at the bottom just above the virtual keyboard you will find the MIDI preset dropdown. Go to MIDI, note mapping, and select the edrum prest from there. After you’ve done this you may also want to try the pedal correction presets found in the same place.
This should get you set up properly. There may or may not be one or two MIDI notes that you have to re-assign manually (floortom rimshot for example).
With regard to getting the full dynamics range out of S2, you shouldn’t have a problem with the TD-9……If the default settings don’t get the desired feel try altering the velocity curves in the mapping window. Select the instrument you want to change by right clicking on it, this will bring up the list of articulations for that instrument to the right of the window. Select the articulation you wish to alter again by right clicking. Go the the velocity curve below and play around by pulling the grab handles up or down until you get the deired response. To give greater mid dynamics you could try an exponential shaped curve first.

Hey guys,
I’m the one who started this thread under the user name red_sg (had lost my password for my main ”rockmax” account).
Wow, you guys solved both of my problems, thank you so much!! I’ve been trying to find those infos for the last two weeks and wasted so many hours. I should have come here first!
Thanks again, have a good week!
How did you get it to work? I have a TD-12 and it works fine in Solo but when I open it in Pro Tools as a plug in, it no longer works. With EZ Drummer it worked no problem Solo and in PT. SD 2.0 is just giving me fits.
paulreed,
please see my answer to your other post.
Best Regards,
John
