Hi,
I posted this in Customer Pre-Sales and got no reply. So…
Looking for a possible new SDX.
I own SD 2.3… ‘Avatar’ and both of the Roots libs. Very satisified, but…
The toms on Avatar have always sounded a bit ‘balloon’ like… they don’t have the ‘fullness’ or ’roundness’ I want. The attack is there and there’s low end, but it’s just not as -full- in the middle as on, say a 70’s style pop track… or even the Beatles (although that’s a really dead sound… I’d prefer something with more ring.) I’ve heard Mike Portnoy on a lot of albums and his toms are great if that is specific enough. But also I’m thinking of Omar Hakim’s toms on the opening to Dire Straits Money For Nothing. It’s ironic… it used to be ‘the’ ‘standard’ sound, but for some reason I can’t think of a current ‘hit’ that has it.
BTW: the included toms are great… they just sound more ‘metal’ or ‘modern’ to my ear… ie. they -cut- very well, but not to beat a dead horse, don’t sound like a -timpani- as I would like.
Got anything like that?
I tried listening to some demos, but frankly, most of your demos don’t have a lot of tom fills. If you have other examples, I’m all ears!
TIA,
—JC
