Hi,
This is my first post here. Please excuse my me English…
Recently I’ve started rebuilding my sound libraries. I use all three Spectrasonics VSTi’s, Composers Collection from East West/Quantum Leaps, Garritan Jazz & Big Band and some other smaller ones. When looking for acoustic drum kits I compared demo songs from Toontrack, Steven Slate, Addictive Drums. The idea of internal drum mixer in Superior Drummer, natural sounding kits and a lot of expansions gave me no option ๐ I ordered SD2 with New York Studio vol. 2, Jazz and Latin Percussion expansions.
Till now I’m impressed the way of working with Superior Drummer. Now I’m using only Cubase but many years ago I used to work with multi track recorders and analog consoles, then I switched to Pro Tools, using Cubase for MIDI sequencing only. SD’s internal mixer and mic tracks we can use is a really great idea. I do love the possibility of mixing the different mikes/tracks for snares, kicks, ambiance.
A couple days ago I found Steven Slate Drums deal at audiomidi.com – good price so I decided to buy it. Of course, after reading many reviews about that library ๐ I read that samples are already processed. Really nice library, especially when you have little time for mixing ๐ or when you need a mega rock drums – they’re a masterpiece of rock drums. And I’m sure I’ll use them in many songs. Personally, I don’t like Kontakt interface and little options for tweaking the sound. Just for the curiosity I bought Steven Slate Presets for SD. Quite similar to SSD presets ๐ Nonetheless, when I switch from SSD to Superior Drummer my drum tracks start to breath ๐ Cymbals, hi-hats, toms really shines. I’m really happy with Superior Drummer libraries.
My wishes? More brush (for Jazz EZX) grooves ๐
Preset management. What do you think about the idea of collecting all presets (from all libraries) in one menu/place? Now they are accessed after selecting the base library. I wish to call the preset from a one menu – they could be categorized (in folders, submenus etc.) according to libraries they’re based on. It could be more convenient to browse and load them directly, not in two steps – first a library, then a preset.
Kindest regards,
Jacek
I think that’s a good idea about the preset management, having all presets in one place. Not sure on the logistics of doing this but +1 for this suggestion.

Hi, Jacek, and welcome to the forums. I think you’ll find folks around here are quite helpful, so never hesitate to ask any questions you may have. It’s a friendly atmosphere.
In regards to your request for more brush grooves for the Jazz EZX (or any other sample set including brushes), you should check out the http://www.platinumsamples.com/ps/RealJazz.php MIDI Groove Pack from http://www.platinumsamples.com/index.php I haven’t personally used that particular pack, but I use their Steve Ferrone MIDI Groove Pack, and it’s excellent. They’re a great company, and I highly recommend them. They hang around on this board quite a bit, as well.
Anyway, welcome again to the community!
Cheers.
