yes. Classic is on sale, but I don’t think I will buy it. I’ve been buying lots of Nebula programs lately, so they are kinda eating my funds. I wanna get some new filters a possibly the BXQ Baxandall Equalizer program, so I can’t justify getting The Classic, when I don’t think I will use it much. It sounds very good, though.

I spent the last hour or two watchin videos and listening to clips of Music City and The Classic. I almost bought both, but wanted a smaller room than Music City had and I liked The Classic, but I wanted rods or brushes. Both libraries were impressive.

What I was originally thinking, I think(?), is how interesting this thread is. It covers a lot of ground. I originally stumbled on it while trying to figure out what SDX to buy to complement the Avatar kit. Now, I’m wondering if I wouldn’t be better served by purchasing a producer pack and trying to figure out how to wring the full potential out of the Avatar stuff.

Getting the most out of the tools you already have seems like a good decision, I think. I believe that you’ll probably be happy adding a producer pack, as long as you like the “unprocessed” sounds in the Avatar kit for your tunes. For me, the “unprocessed” C&V SDX sounds closest to the sound I have in mind for my music. So, I am hoping to wring every last drop of magic that I can out of C&V.

Try this combined preset. In the spirit of the request here, my attempt anyway.

    http://www.jaycoover.com/stuff/Tight_n_Dry_CV (like romanp’s funk examples)
Save in your C&V combined presets folder.

To take it really old school, go to the out 1/2 channel and move both panners to center 0 (mono)

Not in front of my workstation, Fizbin; what extension should that combined preset have please?

They do not have any extensions, just right-click and save it to your Desktop.
Go to the Combined Presets menu and select ‘Manage in Finder/Explorer’.
This opens up a Finder/Explorer window.
Drag from your Desktop to the Combined Presets (User) folder.
Now you can select it in the Combined Presets>User Presets.

That preset is probably closer to Romanp’s examples than wagzisnotadrummer’s.

There’s a snare in C&V that is pretty close to what wagz wants – a big fat one, pretty dry, very little ring but substantial snare. I might try another preset for that.

Thank you John, and thank you also, Fizbin.

I ended up getting the Pop EZX just for the additional percussion -you and your claves!

OK, spent some more time trying to get the approximate sounds in the examples. Keep in mind, I’m not a pro, and the best I can do is get close on some accounts. Sometimes you can try too hard to turn one sound into another and completely destroy what you have. I hope I did not do that.

For wagzisnotadrummer. The Beck sound approximation.

    For romanp. Funky vinyl approximation.

Right click. Save As. Drop them in the Custom and Vintage combined presets folder.

thanks, fizbin! It’s really cool that you took the time to make these presets and share them here. Keeping with this same spirit of giving, here’s one I made yesterday. I was going for natural, dry, and fat.

Thanks wagz! I tuned the snare back up on the Phat snare preset. I think it’s much closer now.

Would be nice if there were a way here where we could upload presets and keep them categorized by sample library.

yeah, that’s a good idea. It would be nice to have a user preset area.

Close, how about a dedicated part of the forum, where each library is delineated somehow. Rule is, one preset per thread, with descriptive title.

That way, I can just go through the C&V section for instance, and ignore sections for libraries that I don’t have.

One preset, plus any variations on that preset per thread, plus a descriptive title keeps it even easier to find stuff, and keeps discussions relevant, rather than dumping everything in one thread.

That would be fairly large in size perhaps, but really useful. Oh, and would need to allow small attachments, just like in the support section.

Thanks for pointing that thread out, Scott. Unfortunately, most of the presets that I tried to download are dead links. It would be nice to have a dedicated, archived, user-friendly Superior Drummer User Presets Area. Can we get something similar to this going?
