Hi there,
I’ve got so many midi files and it is driving me crazy trying to identify where a midi file is from, once I’ve dropped it into the track in SD3. Typically, I’ll be going through loads of midi files and bring them onto different tracks to audition. When I go listen to the track with Cubase running the rest of the instruments in the song and finally get the files I want, I don’t seem to have a way of identifying exactly what file and where it is in the library, so I can look for the related fills/ cymbal files. Any ideas? Is it best to use the midi drop zone? Maybe I’ve answered my own question?

If I’m understanding you right you say you are dragging all the midi parts into your daw and then when you want to find let’s say a prechorus or such for that part you do not know where it came from, yeah?
If that’s the case what I do is build it first in SD3 and then drag it in to my daw LEAVING the original still in SD3. Turn off the FOLLOW ALONG button and even right click and mute the original. That way you can go back to any part and reference what you need and quickly reference where it came from….
Hi, thanks for your response
I’m doing what you say already I don’t use the daw anymore for dragging the midi files into, it’s all in SD3.
It’s identifying those lots of different parts in SD3 and getting the info regarding the folder and place you dragged it from in the first place. The file location etc. I think I’m right when I say that these small midi files, such as fills and grooves only have the basic id, not the location of origin.

If the MIDI file on the song track isn’t too modified, you can right click it and in the menu go to Find/”Select containing folder in Grooves” – which will show the file in the Grooves browser.
If the file is too modified (merged with other files etc.) that menu entry is grayed out. In that case is the drop zone in Tap2Find your best bet! You can also access that in the right click Find menu.
