Midi Controller Not Triggering When Midi Out Is Active

I am using MIDI OUT function of EZDrummer3 to trigger my MFDS as per this article: https://www.toontrack.com/faq/ezdrummer-2-midi-out-with-cockos-reaper/ Everything works great except one thing.
