Hi to all.
I am new to the forum and to using external triggers and mesh heads. Here is my situation/setup. I just purchased Metal Machine (EZdrummer using Solo) and the sounds are amazing so if anyone is thinking of getting it. They did a fantastic job. The ludwig kit blows away Steven Slate. Wow. I don’t think they were trying to compete with the Old Zep Kit (SSD) set but inadvertently, perhaps?, they just blow the Old Zep Kit out of the water with Metal Machine. Real Big, tight, thunderous
Ludwig kit.
Anyway, since switching to the mesh heads (Pearl) and one Billy Blast 18″ kick mesh head (not quite round, as he must have been in his “Mesh Lab” a bit too much). I am using ddrum triggers (red shot) I am running into multiple triggers off a single hit. The Td-4 module sounds (no software) works flawless with the mesh heads and triggers? Hit it once you get a single stroke hit. That’s all well and good but the sounds blow with the module. I want to primarily use Metal Machine.
I have tried putting tape under the triggers, loosening the heads to try to get less bounce. I have tightened them as well (out of desperation)
I have tightened the triggers down as tight as they will go on my acoustic drum hoops/mesh heads.
I have other EZ drummer kits as well such as DFH, Metalheads, etc.
I am having the most problems with DFH, which is just out of control with multiple triggering and metal machine Metalheads is pretty good about multiple triggering.
I don’t get it.
The Roland Module by itself is flawless
It is limited in terms of editing parameters on the module. No threshold, No X-Talk, nothing but pad volume, panning and sensitivity.
Also, the Pop/Rock kit works flawlessly in EZDrummer.
Just doesn’t make sense to me. I can’t pinpoint where the issue is coming from so I don’t know what I need to do. Anyone?
I do have Superior 2.3 and I know I have a lot more control here but I am just practicing with Solo as it’s just easier. I don’t want to tweak my “” off if I don’t have to.
Besides, the interface using EXdrummer via Solo is just cool!!
Anyone have suggestions?
How will new mesh heads help? Hart mesh heads? New Triggers that are not dependent on the mesh head? Or just better ones that won’t blow the bank.
I just don’t understand how there is such a variance in Toontrack expansions either. Why don’t they all react the same with the heads and triggers.
Then, when the Module and the Pop and Rock kits works fantastic it makes me even more confused.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
From what i read you are using EZ Drummer.
SD2 has more Scope for Adjusting how its engine reacts to input/midi.Youll have to adjust settings on the TD4 to find a sweet spot.
I found this does happen from the Pads and the Roland Engine is good at masking this problem.
Double hits on the Snare and Kicks, were an issue for me especially with the PDx8 or older pads or other cheaper pads, can still happen even if using PD 105,s or PD125’s.Sometimes you find you will double trigger on a rimshot because you actually send two midi note numbers at the same time, which is just silly on Rolands end.I only noticed this after sitting at my DAW and doing some microscope editing.
Try to raise the sens on each offending pad within the module, its been a while but i’m sure a little tweak will do wonders,
you may find the newer PD105’s upwards are better and help this too,There are some advanced settings to do with how fast it responds to second hits but take a note of settings before you change them to much.
Thanks Juicy,
Unfortunately, I am not using Roland Pads or triggers (other than cymbals) and the module has no ability to adjust the hits or threshold at all.
I was thinking that an Alesis I/O might help in lieu of the extremely limited TD-4.
Anyone know about the Alesis I/O and EzDrummer with acoustic triggers?
I can appreciate SD2 but don’t want to invest the time into tweaking what might be the ddrum triggers or the crappy pearl mesh heads>
Anyone have experience with Hart Dynamics or Billy Blast Mesh Heads with Toontack on an acoustic kit?
I set the sensitivity up on all triggers via the module but it doesn’t address the double hits it just makes the kit more sensitive to the hits/louder.
Hello
I have recently bought an XM-DRUM kit and I get the same thing. If i just slightly hit the pads its ok , if you give them a normal hit, BANG it double triggers other sounds as well. This is happening to all pads. If I run the kit through Steve Slate its fine. Any suggestions ?
Hey dkeens!
I just bought some Xdrums too and have the exact same problem! did you find a solution?!
