Hey, Toontrack– I love the Kenny Aronoff Midi pack you released. I heard Kenny just the other day hosting a show on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio. It got me thinking about what a unique drummer Max Weinberg is and some of the interesting parts he has put to Springsteen’s songs. I would love to see a Max Wineberg Midi pack.
I realize not every drummer is available, or wants to participate, but Max would be a great addition to Kenny’s Midi pack. Max could probably do two separate packs- one for his big band style and the other for his rock stuff. Another option would be to approach Max’s son, Jay, who I believe is currently playing in Slipknot. There again, there’s an opportunity for a two volume set: one a metal set of Midi, the other a ‘tribute’ to Jay’s dad (Jay played drums on a couple of Springsteen tours over the last several years).
I believe Jay filled in for Max for health reasons and that brings me to the final reason for doing what you did with Kenny Aronoff: these guys are human and they have a unique feel on the drums. Once they are gone, their specific feel is forever lost. I’ve purchased similar products (Steve Ferrone – pretty good, Omar Hakim – performance great, Midi captured poorly), but no one has captured feel like Toontrack. In one sense, this is akin to capturing history and the legacy of the greatest drummers in the genre while they are still with us. You were able to capture the incomparable feel of Clyde Stubblefield before his passing and music is richer for it. Something to think about. Thanks for your time.
