Hi there!
4 months ago I decided to invest in an alesis trigger I/O module w/ ezdrummer to trigger my drums with. It works great considering I’m use a 3 year old laptop with an internal soundcard. However, I would like to do some amateur recording with it, for say, drum covers or demos and I am having some issues. At low latencies such as 4ms, when I record my drumming and then play it back, it sounds unusually sloppy. No matter what the complexity of the beat, whether it being a Meshuggah beat or your basic beginner rock beat it sounds sloppy. For example, it sounds like i’m struggling to keep the beat and if I intend to hit the bass drum and cymbal at the same time, in the recording it will sound like i’m flamming, when in reality im not. However if I raise the buffers, this problem seems to be alleviated a bit, however by then the delay between when I strike the drums and when I hear a note is noticeable.
Despite being aged, my laptop is still decently powerful – it has an intel i3 processor @ 2.13 ghz and 4GB of ram. So hopefully, it’s just the soundcard (I’m using ASIO4ALL as the driver) causing the issue! If so, would this sound card do resolve the sloppy drumming issue and allow me to play at low latencies? Or perhaps even one of those memory stick like external sound cards? I don’t wish to spend a lot of money.
Thank you very much for your time.
Have a great day!
