I’ve got an interest in setting up a livestream of playing the drums alongside backing tracks (cribbing the idea entirely from another person who does the same thing on Twitch.tv). This is naturally going to be a new level of Hades compared to simply recording the kit normally, as it needs syncing up live to a backing track, webcams, and all piped in through a streaming program (I’m using OBS Studio, but can’t imagine using something else would make much of a difference).
I have my DTXtreme III brain connected through a Roland UM-ONE Midi-to-USB Interface plugged into my computer. EZDrummer is picking it up with no real issues, so that much is out of the way.
The real issue I’m having is with output latency. Under my Audio/MIDI Setup, I’ve got an Output Latency of 101.6ms, which is certainly enough to throw me off, and this may well just be because I don’t have a dedicated sound card in this computer. After a little bit of Google Searching I’ve tried using ASIO4All, and I can drop the output to 9ms, a much more reasonable proposition. The problem of course now is that while it plays (either through my motherboard’s plugged in speakers or my USB Microphone), nothing else will play with it through the same channel and my streaming software won’t pick it up (as thanks to the ASIO hackery it’s now bypassing Window’s normal processes or something. I am a programmer, not an audio engineer). I’ve got a laptop I can instead pipe this all through if needs be, and some finances spare to buy hardware.
So the question is how to get all this to work; with the drums as latency free as possible, all connected into a single bit of software? Will a dedicated sound card be able to handle playing the music and latency free(ish) midi at the same time into the software? And if so, any recommendations for the entry level hobbyist such as myself?
I’ve got the exact same problem.
Except that also when I launch OBS, EZdrummer won’t function correctly, as if the plugin was disabled.
Any clue ?
