Layering ezkeys2 and a synth: midi ‘through’ not working as expected [Solved]

EDIT: This was a DAW problem. In Reaper, if you want to layer synths, either by placing them one after another in the same track FX tray, or routing the midi from KZKeys2 to a second track, remember to go to the pin connector > I/O > midi output and select ‘merge’ instead of the (default) ‘replace’.
