Kind of silly question

How do I get each drum into its own individual track?
example:
Bass drum = track 1
snare =track 2
and so on…..

I know this has been asked many times over and I feel silly asking, but I was so used to changing the velocity in the midi editor I never consider putting each drum on its own track in my DAW, I am currently using garageband and reaper and I just want to know how, a link to an article or another thread would do the trick, I did a search the forum and there was so many results but they were very specific or just had terminology I am not used to.
