Hi,
I bought a week ago the “Kick & snares” expansion so that I can add more choices in SD3.
I don’t have EZ drummer so I can’t tell how they sound there.
Something that strikes me is that ALL snares are very dim, damped and muffled, with no attack whatsoever, no matter if they are centered or rimshot’ed, at any velocity and with the envelope set to default.
It really feels like they are hit with the palm of the hand.
None of them can fit any standard use (pop/rock/metal). And even for jazz, it would work for one particular song or two at best.
I went and see if they were set for hands/mallet/brushes but in my instrument editor, they seem to be all set to sticks.
No way they are hit by sticks. No other snare of the SD3 standard or SDX libraries sounds like those, even uncompressed.
There’s no trace of any decent attack or sustain, it’s just unusable.
Her attached a file with a simple groove made of 2 snare hit (one centered and one RIMSHOT), both at full velocities, with the default preset of K&S (I just lowered the reverb a bit).
The sample audio here showcases 25 snares of this pack that I just added in order, as they appeared.

So is it normal that they all sound so muffled (artistic choice I don’t know about) or is it a problem ?
Anyone who has this expansion working in SD3 can answer this, please?
PS: I know some of them are supposed to be dampened or toweled but it’s less than 5 snares recorded in my audio file.
Thanks you
Hey Baylock,
Have you checked out the Youtube videos on the Kicks & Snares EZX?
What I’m hearing in your audio is mainly the electronic sounds, so most likely you’re using the default preset and haven’t touched the mixer. Since there are so many different studios in the library, all faders are at 0dB in the superior default preset, which makes the electronic sounds relatively louder than the acoustic sounds. Try loading one of the studio presets and see if it makes a difference for you.
Here’s an example with only acoustic sounds, and then I add some electronic sounds at the end.
