“In Swirl” articulation switches between Swirl and Hit

I would like to use the swirl articulation of a snare played with brushes. I assigned the “In Swirl” articulation of the 4×14 Ludwig Downbeat 1960s (from Decades) to a midi note. Now every time I trigger that note the articulation switches from swirl to hit. Why is that? This way I cannot use the articulation the way a drummer uses his left hand in jazz swing styles.
