IZ Keys/Bass seems to be designed to facilitate creating a new song. But what if you already have an existing song and simply want to produce a musical rendition – possibly as an accompaniment for a vocal? You have an existing chord progression and you need to keep the chords integrity as already existing. The present instructional manuals and videos do not clearly help in this vein. Thru trial and error I have come up with my own guide to making EZ easy!
Note: I’m using Ableton Intro as my DAW. Other DAW software may behave differently.
EZ KEYS
Record you chords onto your DAW. (I use a keyboard)
Toontracks claims you can drag the DAW channel onto E Keys, but I was unable to do this, so I had to record it.
Using EZ Keys, record the chords onto its Song Track.
Set EZ Keys for the desired sound: mellotoon, Grand Piano, etc.
Click the BROWSER button to get to the next menu. Here you can
choose from the Midi Library the style you want and select a “Variation”
Click to highlight in red on the Song Track .
Play the Variation which will play using your chords.
Click “Use Browser Midi”
Click “Replace”.
You can also drag the Song Track onto Ableton DAW which will give you the ability to control volume, panning, etc.
Note: You can use the scissors to cut the Sound Track which will enable you, for instance, to use a different Variation for the Intro or Verse, etc.
UNDO
Don’t use Ctrl Z as it had no effect on EZ Keys and instead may effect your DAW .
There is an Undo button on the lower lelft side (under the scissors, arrow, etc.)
EZ Bass
To begin you will need a MIDI file for your song. A wav audio file will not work.
You can use a piano file recorded from your Keyboard or the E Keys piano file that you have created. However, you must create a NEW BASS TRACK on your Ableton DAW.
You can accomplish this by copying your DAW midi file and pasting it onto a new
bass track.
Pick a GROOVE for your song.
You can now use EZ Bass to record your DAW midi file and you will see the chords
materialize. You can now choose to USE your GROOVE and REPLACE it into your DAW. You can also click the EZ Bass songtrack and drag it onto you DAW bass channel. This will make it easier to control volume, panning, etc;
