Hello; I am using an Alesis USB Pro E-drum kit and EZDrummer.
The Alesis USB Pro kit has choke strips on the cymbols but it’s not clear how to get them to work using EZDrummer can you help please???
The cymbal is considered a dual zone trigger. You must assign the choke ‘zone’ to ezdrummer’s choke/mute midi note.
In my system I used MIDI note 58. That way I just have to grab the choke (without hitting the cymbal) and I get a choked hit.

Thanks for the reply!
I have already set the rim of the rack tom to trigger the 58 cymbal muted note to make do for now; but I spent the extra money to get the choke cymbals so that I could play the cymbal then choke it like you would a real drum kit ya know?
If this function isn’t possible with ezdrummer, is there a setting on the alesis trigger io I need to use… Or do I need to buy Superior drummer?
I have the Alesis I/O and the DM-5. On the Dm-5 you have a group function. On the DM-5, I set the choke sound volume to ZREO and put the crash and choke into group 2 (or was it B?). That way when I grab the choke the previous crash is immediately cut off (that is the function of the group). However that does not immediately translate to EZDrummer, it only works for the sounds in my DM-5.
I have Superior Drummer and I assume you can setup such a feature. I just have not gone that far yet.

Again thanks for trying but I don’t have a drum module my setup connects straight to EZD from the trigger io via a USB…
The more I look at it I’m really not sure if it’s even possible with EZD alone which is a real disappointment!
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL MEWHAT I NEED TO DO TO GET THIS WORKIN!?! =S
I am in the same boat as the original poster. I have the Alesis USB pro kit and Superior Drummer, but the Alesis kit doesnt output Aftertouch, and right now, when I hit the Choke Strip, it plays a hit which then chokes itself after a certain amount of time. I’d like to be able to decide when to choke a hit.
Is there anywhere I can find instruction on how to assign a note to the Envelope Note-On function, so that when I hit that Choke strip, it outputs a certain note, which Superior Drummer interprets and silences the appropriate cymbal?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
I to have the trigger I/O but my kit is sort of a moded mutt so bare with me. I use SP drummer for flexability but I do know that the choke only seems to work in the vintage rock EZX kit. The choke note is 54 and crash note it 55 but I dont have the same cymbal as you, infact I have an old duel zone Pizzo snare (simmons SK5) pad set up as my crash B so when I hit the center of the drum it crashes and when I either hit or grab the rim it mutes, so it can be done. try changing the trigger type on the Trigger io for the choke trigger to a different type one should work better than another although I dont remember what the letters stand for but I do know that a PP is a pizzo switch meaning it needs to be hit but there is a trigger type for a choke or mute switch that needs to be grabbed or touched.
I cant find the mute note for the rest of the EZX’s or SPX’s so I just set up a crash from the vintage rock kit in all the other kits and save them as projects in SP drummer. it makes the crash a little more commin but it fits and you do have some options as far as virtual cymbals. for the songs I play a crash choke is a must so I had to make it work, plus I just didnt have the $$$ for the nice dual zone choke Cymbals although they do look like they are the Sh*# I sort of found a way to paly what I wanted and never looked back.
I have the Alesis Surge cymbals that come with the Alesis USBPro kit myself. I started using EZ Drummer and now I have Superior…I too, have chosen to assign the choke strip to a silenced(choked) cymbal hit. so I don’t have to hit the cymbal at all, I grab it for the sound. I’m still not used to this, and I’m working to find a solution. Naturally I decided to switch machines in the middle of the crossgrade to Superior, and I’m having latency issues. be SURE when I get those issues fixed I will find a solution if there is one and share it here, if someone else doesn’t get to it first:) LOVE the Surge Cymbals! I added 2 more, a 13″ dual to match the one I already had, and then another single zone 13″ for a china! good stuff..

If you set set the volume of the muted cymbal sound to zero, then you’ll have a choke switch that works the right way.
S2.3 have now a mute tail articulation available on the crashes that give you a far more realistic choke sound.
With the IO, now, you just have have to assign the choke note number to the “mute tail” articulation, and it’s done.
I have and other Question,superior3 user,i have a note just mute all time? Midi 57-58 same sound,
I want it to sing in a open way,,mute mute mute,,if i choose SP2 it work? What do i need to change my midi or mute?
