How to find MIDI where MIDI grooves came from once dropped in Logic Pro?

Drag to the Song Track and leave it there…even if you drag to Logic. Then, at anytime you can click a groove and select ‘Show in Browser’ and find it easily. Make sure, if you have the same MIDI in the Song Track and Logic MIDI track that you unselected Follow Host so you won’t be playing the same MIDI over itself.

    Hey Scott,

I don’t quite understand what you mean? Can you please explain in more detail? I’m dragging a drum loop from Superior 2’s grooves into Logic Pro X’s timeline, but then I can’t seem to find anything that says “Show in Browser” in Logic? What Browser are you talking about? Superiors browser, Logic?

Please explain in detail if you can.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi,

Scott is referring to the EZdrummer 2 Song Track.
Please see my reply over here and follow the links in my post:

Thanks John! Great info with regards to EZDrummer 2! However anyone know if this can be done with Superior Drummer 2?

    Thanks in advance!

no: this functionality is not available in SD2; you’ll have to decipher that cryptic name yourself, knowing each group of characters stands for a level in the file-tree…

    Thanks for the info Jym!

Too bad. Can’t wait for the next version of Superior Drummer. I’m sure they’ll have this nailed down with many of the options, if not more than EzDrummer 2. At least I hope so.

    Thanks Again!

Finding what groove was used within a DAW is an ongoing issue. Maybe it has been resolved in SD3, but in SD2 it is incredibly frustrating. I have old projects that have grooves placed in them with coded abbreviations that I can’t match to anything in my SD2 Groove Library for some reason. Admittedly, I haven’t tried every single groove in my entire library, but generally I’ve found that a MIDI region in Logic will take a name such as MCU_***** for any of the grooves taken from the Music City Drum grooves file and that is somewhat helpful to know/recognize those abbreviations, but as I said, I have old projects that begin with letters that don’t match any groove library in my collection. That makes it a huge pain to track down which grooves were used.

And while I’d love to follow John’s link above to see his explanation and whether or not it applies to my situation, Toontrack’s forum has made it so that I am not able to view that thread because I don’t own EZDrummer. Frankly, I’ve never experienced being blocked from a forum where I own multiple products but not the specific one being referenced. I find that incredibly odd.

I absolutely love the sounds in SD2 and find the grooves incredibly useful, but Toontrack does seem to have missed a crucial part of this workflow. I have remedied it for myself as I’ve moved forward, but my old projects are still a pain to pull up and rework when I have to. If anyone has found a useful solution that can be made visible for those of us who own SD2, I would certainly appreciate it as I generally check this forum about twice a year to see if anyone has a better answer than “hunt and peck.”

Ah! For YEARS, I thought this was just me! Whew.

    Any resolution here?

    I’ve got a file name: EP_S4T_B_V01

And need some variations, but forgot the specific file tree to get there…

Thanks in advance for any help (and thanks anyway if not).

    Cheers,

Couldn’t you bring the MIDI file back into Superior and drag it to the “Midi Drop Zone” and find it that way?  It should come up as a 100% match.  Then just go to the folder and find the variations.

It’s 2024 and they still haven’t provided any indicator of which grooves you dragged into your track/timeline. You have to remember, or guess, or use some AI tap2find nonsense.

Meanwhile a giant blue/purple/green bar is sitting over top of each groove that could easily show its origin in the library. Clicking a groove in the track could easily take you back to that spot in the library where you found it. This is basic user interface design 101. Think like the user. They have dragged a bunch of grooves into their track and have mucked around with them. Now they want to add some more.. what’s the first question they have now? It is “Where did I get this stuff from again?”.

Instead it’s 2024, and you click on the groove and get nothing. Just says “Verse”, or “Chorus” etc.. really? How does it know that if it also has no idea where the groove came from? Chorus of what? What family was it? What style was it? Nothing.
