I’m thinking about using EZ drummer with the Alesis Midi IO for my e drums kit.
Question is: how many inputs can EZ Drummer handle?
I’m looking at kick + 4 toms + 6 cymbals and need to be able to assign different sounds to each.
Can EZ Drummer do this?
If not as standard, do the expansion packs (such as DFH, Classic) enable this?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
EZ is set up to follow General Midi Spec so your Kik,Snr,Hats,Toms and Cymbals will work just same as Standard E Drums Mapping.Cant think of any problems.
However if you want to do even more ,you may find SD2 is an even better way to go.
Hi,
user Juicy is right, I just want to add that EZdrummer is only supported for E-drum use together with Toontrack solo as host. If you wish to use other hosts and/or if you also might want to customize MIDI note assignments as well as constructing an expanded kit, the suggestion to look into Superior 2 is very good.

Hi,
Sorry, but I am still confused a bit. I have the exact same situation as the original poster: I have an e-drum kit and an Alesis IO with 12 inputs. I would like to be able to use all 12.
Can you explain precisely what I will need to practice on this kit? I am not interested in mixing or recording — I just need to be able to hear the triggers. I’m using Windows 7. I have no “host” or “sequencer.”
From what I have pieced together from the forums, I have to:
1. download Toontrack solo (free)
2. download EZdrummer
3. Download an expansion pack, such as metal machine, to play all 12 inputs
Is this correct? I’m looking for the least expensive option.
Thank you.
there are only 10 inputs on the Trigger I/O as far as I’m aware. This means that you do not need any expansion packs (well, not for that reason anyhow) as there are exactly 10 instruments slots in EZdrummer (standard KD-SD-HH-RD + 3 toms, 2 crash and a cowbell).
Even if you wanted more toms or crashes for instance you can piece up such a kit using 2 instances of EZdrummer, something quite straightforward, routing wise, using Toontrack solo.
So, your cheapest option is to purchase EZdrummer. If you have specific desires for brands, genre or other preferences then of course you will need to expand from there.
I hope that helps.

Hi — thanks for responding.
I purchased EZdrummer and successfully installed it along with Toontrack Solo on my computer. I also downloaded the most recent updates. I am able to start Toontrack Solo and have it host EZdrummer, and clicking the drums with the mouse works fine.
However, I am not able to get my Alesis Trigger IO to create any sound through EZdrummer when I play on the electronic drumkit. I tried changing Toontrack Solo to ‘Options->Controller->E-drums’, but I’m not getting any sound. The Alesis Trigger IO is responding (the lights on the IO turn on when I hit the drumhead triggers), and the Trigger IO installed successfully on the computer, and I know that it used to work as the previous owner successfully used EZdrummer via Garageband.
Am I missing a step here? Does anything need to be enabled to generate sound? I am running Windows 7, 64 bit.
Thanks
Hi,
have you selected the MIDI hardware driver under Options in Toontrack solo?

OK, and you are 100% positive the triggerIO is sending MIDI data to the computer?
