Hi. I’d like to have a very strong attack on some specific components (on the snare for example) in EZDrummer. I turned the Velocity all the way up, and tried some different settings with the mixer, but still, I can’t find that strong rough sound I’m looking. I’ve also used different drum kits (e.g. Drum Kit From Hell), but nothing is quite doing it. Is it possible to achieve this in EZDrummer? Or, is there another Toontrack plug-in I should add? Or, worst case scenario, does Superior Drummer have some Attack control feature? Thanks in advance.
Depending on what you’re actually going for, I’m not sure if it would be possible within EZ Drummer.
I’m pretty sure that, yes, Superior would definitely fit the bill by making adjustments to the Envelope settings.
The Superior tutorial videos can probably show you better if it’ll do what you want better than I can in text… in particular, the Envelope is shown off a bit just after 11:30 in this vid…

…I know it gets a bit crazier in another vid too, but I can’t remember which it is offhand.
Alternatively, if you have some other external plug-ins available, and can’t quite swing the cash for Superior yet, you can try running EZD multichannel and add an effect onto only the snare drum channels.
Here’s a quick screenshot I whipped up of how the EZD multi-channel setup might look in Reaper…

From your description of what you’ve tried, I might try throwing a very short ‘verb or delay onto the snare. Or maybe a comp instead/also? (Take those suggestions with a grain of salt — I’m still very newbie with some of this stuff 😉 )

Wow! Thanks a lot for that quick response! I’ll sure check this out and give you some feedback. This is really appreciated. Thanks again!
If you have access to any sort of “transient designer” plugin, you may be able to achieve the kind of thing you’re looking for. You essentially want to emphasize the attack, rather than the sustain. Using some good EQs judiciously would help, too. Find the frequency range for the snare attack (somewhere between 1k-8k, depending on the actual snare). You can also boost upward of 12k to add some air, which can make the attack seem more prominent sometimes. There are some ways with the right compressor to make the snare sort of “jump” out more, as well.
You mention wanting more attack on other drums, as well. Usually the next culprit would be the kick drum. Depending on the drum itself, of course, you can find the pedal attack all the way up around 6k. Boost that with a fairly narrow Q, and cut some of the midrange out of the kick to give it more impact.
There are loads of other things you can do, of course. This is just a start. And it assumes you’re using EZDrummer in a DAW host where you have access to general plugs.

I would suggest EQ Top end around 6 k and higher to the bland non attacking sounds THEN Compress this sound.
EQ before Compression is all you need.
This will wake up the Hi Hats too if done on your TT plugin stereo outs,Best on individual outs for total control.
Youll Sound just like the record.
