So I have recorded a drumtrack and bass track for a song that I am working on. Drums were done with an e-kit into Logic Pro X using Superior Drummer and the EZX Vintage add on kit. I swapped out the hats via XDrum with hats from the Avatar collection.
I feel like I have them close to where I want them by blending the ambient/overhead track with the close mic track on the hats themselves. I am trying to get from this sound to something that is a little brighter….but every time I EQ the higher frequencies, more presence is added to the stick attack on the hats making them sound brash and synthetic. Any suggestions to give me a brighter sound without re-introducing a brashness to the hats would be VERY welcome.

Using De-Esser effect will help with that. You might have to do a frequency cut just to the Hhats as well, if the De-Esser doesnt get you all the way to the sound your looking for. There are videos on YOUTUBE about using a De-Esser and doing Frequency cuts!
Almost all of my tunes here use EZDrummer 2, EZ Mix2 EZ Bass and EZPiano, thanks for listening!

Jason thanks for the reply. I will try the De-Esser on the hats today. Been away on vacation so I have not had a chance to touch anything. I also saw in my research the mastering process in general may also lend a hand in taming the hats a little. This is my first run thru using both Logic and SD to record so it’s a learning experience!
