I have been dabbling in recording using Cubase for about the last 5 months. I am getting better with learning when to use compressors, what instrument and the frequencies to toss a hi or low pass on, side chains and so on; however, I still have a long way to go. I am just looking for an easier time, at least get an idea of what to use on some of the channels.
We have been messing around with recording our next album at home. The setup is not bad actually and so far the results have been pretty decent and improve daily. Using triggers with Drumagog and some solid samples. It already sounds better in terms of the style than our last CD, and we recorded at Canyon Studios. Though, the engineer wasn’t accustomed to our musical style so the mix wasn’t really right for the music.
My question is we are along the style of All that Remains, some Unearth influences, August Burns Red and maybe some We Came as Romans (more the last CD) and I am looking into EZmix, but the new Metal Essentials version. More to help out with a few minor things, but all depends.
1) What are the fundamental differences in tone between the Metal Pack and the Metal Essentials Pack?
2) In terms of sound quality, could you use this in conjunction with others VSTs (or even solo for that matter) and produce something that sounds good enough to send for mastering.? I know the CLA signature series from Waves sounds good and is a competitor; however, it’s more expensive. Just curious is they are “comparable” within reason.
I know nothing is the save all answer for plugins; however, if utilized correctly, could produce something great.
Thanks for any help you can give. I am looking into purchasing it this week.
