I have been an EZD user for years. But lately I have grown very tired of the selection. I play funk, R&B, soul, some fusion, Motown (and not all Motown sounds like “I Was Made To Love Her”). Most of what Toontrack offers is metal and rock. I play neither. So those grooves do not benefit me in any way. Plus, when I buy a MIDI pack, the grooves are all recycled from other EZD packs. And in the MIDI packs that I have purchased there are maybe as many as 2 or 3 rhythms that are usable – sometimes only 1.
I’ve also noticed that the grooves that are in soul and funk MIDI packs are pretty standard. There’s nothing new and different in regards to the kinds of grooves they offer. I would fire the drummers used and get ones that have some imagination and better grooves (and better rhythm). Listen to some nice R&B, funk and soul songs (and how about listening to some Billy Cobham and other jazz, funk, R&B and fusion drummers) and get fresh ideas. Otherwise, it’s time for me to find other drums.
