Hello,
I’m currently using the EZDrummer 2 demo and I have a few days left until I have to make the choice of buying it or not. Typically I have just sequenced drums by hand in the past, so I’m no stranger to that, but I can definitely see how this product could speed up the workflow.
That being said, the MIDI groove libraries in the demo are pretty small, and I wanted to get more information about what is included in the full version. It’s kind of hard to figure this out from the product page.
This will help me make my decision whether to buy or not, so I’d be very appreciative if a Toontrack employee (or another user) could help answer my question.
The main problem is that I just can’t find what I’m looking for in the groove library included in the demo. As a simple example of what I’m asking about, here’s a problem I ran into tonight. I tried using the Tap2Find feature to enter a basic rock beat with a slight syncopation on the snare. It’s a standard rock beat, except the snare hit that normally comes on the 2 comes on the and of 1 (half a beat early). This is a typical groove used in lots of modern rock songs. It’s basically the simplest rock groove ever (kick on 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4) with one of the snare hits moved forward by an eighth note.
The search yielded no usable results. The best match listed 30% in the Matching column of the browser, and it was just a standard rock beat with snare on the 2 and 4. Not what I was wanting.
I tried the same thing again, this time with the snare coming an eighth note later instead of an eighth note earlier. Same result.
As I searched through the library, I found that almost everything included in the demo in a 4/4 time signature is a basic rock beat with snare on the 2 and 4 of each measure. As such, I’ve found that I usually end up re-recording most of the kick and snare stuff on my own, because nothing in the library matches what I want to do.
So, my question is, if I buy the full product, do I get an expanded groove library, or is the demo representative of what I get in the full product?
I realize that there are MIDI expansion packs (or EZX packs) that probably include a lot more varied grooves, but for now, I just want to know what I get in the standard version of the software.
Thanks very much!

I can’t speak to the demo as I upgraded from EZDrummer1 to EZDrummer2 as soon as it was available on May 6th,
but, that said, it looks like the EZDrummer2-included library, Modern/Vintage kit comes with almost 1,000 grooves:
720 grooves for the kit and 254 grooves for the percussion (handclaps, tamborine, shaker).
Thanks, gseshleman. That’s helpful… I’ll try to open the demo version and compare. However, my demo version just expired, so I have a feeling that I might not be able to open it at all any more.
If somebody from Toontrack could respond, I would be very thankful!
Hi,
AFAICT user gseshleman is right about the amount of included grooves. At least there shouldn’t be less than that.
