Hello to everybody.
I’am trying to build a e-drum for my son (and myself….) and I have a doubt on the upper foam layer. Can anyone suggest what is the best thikness for the upper foam layer and how soft/hard should it be?
Many thanks for your replys.
Johan.
The pad I try to build are similar to the remo practice pad tipe.
Regards,
Johan.
I made mine with ~6mm top layer, 3mm MDF circle with piezo glued on to bottom, then ~12mm bottom foam. The pads I used weren’t remo pads, but were very similar. The foam was very similar to the foam that came with the pad – light open cell foam.
Just take apart your pad – you’ll need about the same thickness of foam as what is currently in there. I experimented swapping the thin and thick foam between bottom/top but found little difference and went an assumption that I’d get slightly less crosstalk with thicker foam on the bottom.
I also cut a ~40mm hole in the top layer of foam in the middle (above the pizeo) to get rid of the hotspot (sharp rise in sensitivity just above the piezo).
Many thanks for your information. This will help me a lot during the building proces. When finished I will post a picture.
Johan.
