I think this is the right place to post. (Sorry if it isn’t.)
I’m about to embark on the DIY EDrum adventure and I’ve been reading the forum like a madman getting a bunch of ideas.
I already have a set of DDrum triggers on an acoustic drumset, (Until I get a custom butt kicking EDrum set built.) using an Alesis I/O and in the near future will be triggering Superior Drummer 2.0.
I just recently bought a PreSonus FireBox which just so happens to be the most expensive coaster I’ve had the pleasure of purchasing. Short version… this thing is WAY too unstable/unreliable for LIVE use and I’ve taken every fix PreSonus’ website has to offer. So I’m happy to say it’s getting smacked upside it’s metal case with an RMA number very soon.
I wondered if anyone has heard anything about/or possibly used the PreSonus FireStudio Mobile (Guess they had to re-brand it.) and if they’ve actually done anything to fix the Firewire Sync problems the FireBox was cursed with? I know it’s a new unit and possibly no one has had a chance to work with/purchase one… but maybe some of you have.
I’ve been looking at a bunch of “Zero-Latency” and “Zero-Monitoring” soundcards and also wonder if anyone has any possible suggestions of a good one to purchase and what experience you’ve had with them. I know this gets discussed alot but technology moves pretty fast so I’m asking just to make sure. Besides… I’m not a drummer and I only know these things from an audio engineer standpoint, so I’d like to hear what the drummers takes on these are seeing as how drums is what it will be used for.
WHAT “I” NEED IN THE SOUNDCARD – (These aren’t set in stone but would like to have these.)
[*]Multiple Outputs (At least enough for SOME seperation for LIVE use but would deal with stereo.)[*]Super Low Latency (Yes, I know “Zero” latency doesn’t exsist.)[*]Firewire, USB, PCI/PCIe or possibly even PCMIA. (Yep, that should cover all the bases.)
[*]$100 – $400 Price Range (Can’t see going more since it will NEVER be used for recording.)
NOTE: This will NOT be used for any recording at all. So things like good preamps, DIs, etc, etc are not necessary.
For the moment I really need this for LIVE concert use. A decent Mid-Level PC will be used.
