Hi im new to the forum and i have an issue with using EZDrummer with Pro Tools. Since i am at university i am living away from home therefore recording an actual drums for any of my projects is out of the question due to my tiny flat. I purchased EZDrummer and a few of the expansions (Drumkit From Hello/Metalheads) as i write a lot of Metal tracks. The issue in having is when i use EZDrummer as a plug-in in Pro Tools 10. If i click on a piece of the kit on the EZDrummer window it sounds great, yet when i start writing beats with EZDrummer in Pro Tools’ MIDI editor the drums sound rather thin and mediocre. I posted the same issue on the Avid forums site and someone suggested turning the velocity up of each strike in my MIDI editor, but that did nothing to help sadly. Does anyone know how to rectify this as it really sucks that if i want to create my own drum beats and not use loops, the drums dont sound as good as they should do. I f anyone has any ideas on what i can do to get the MIDI drums to sound as good as the program it will be greatly appreciated
If you drag any of the beats from the EZDrummer window to PT’s MIDI editor, do they sound the same or Thin also? If he same, it might be down to your drum pragramming/arranging. If thin, then there’s another issue, although as there’s only MIDI nots, etc being sent from EZD to PT’s ME, I don’t know what it is.
If it’s a programming or arranging issue, try dragging some beats across and modifying them. Compare the EZD beats with yours to see what differences there are…

When you click a drum in the interface, it’s with full (127) velocity.
Adding a note with the Pencil Tool in Pro Tools is probably with a Default velocity of 60 or 80.
Either you change the Default note on velocity value in the Pro Tools preferences or you change the velocity of the notes in the Velocity lane of the Instrument Track.

Have you tried dragging one of the supplied midi grooves from your library into a midi track in PT10?
Yeah midi cant sound thin. Actually ??? Anyhow…
Its soft or loud and im positive it is something to do with volume of some sort.
Even pros can be tricked to believe a sound changed or got more/less low end and or top end/midrange from a simple db or two of volume attenuation.
