I have nearly every EZDrummer 1 EZX, and lots and lots of Pro Tools sessions with EZDrummer in them. My concern is that EZD2 will replace EZD1, and with all the new features in EZD2, the settings will no longer recall and sound like they did before.
I can’t risk at this point losing all that previous work, so am looking for assurance that EZD2 is completely backwards compatible with EZD1.

Yes, it is.
However, there is an issue in Sonar that makes the routing from other
VSTs go crazy when EZ1 is replaced by EZ2. There is also a bug in EZ2.0.0
with existing projects that use many instances, more than 8.

What is the issue with Sonar? Do you have a link or anything that explains it in more detail? I’m curious as I’m running Sonar myself. Thanks!
I found this on a Cakewalk forum that describes the problem:
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Problems-after-installing-EZdrummer2-m3035781.aspx
I suspect that their assumption that Sonar has an issue with the changing of an instrument’s outputs is the cause. Is there a way to install EZD2 side by side with EZD1 so it doesn’t replace the EZD1 install? Perhaps that would alleviate the issue…

There is not, I’m afraid. Part of the whole idea with the update is that it effortlessly replaces EZdrummer 1 in your projects.

If that is part of the whole idea, why does the update truly NOT effortlessly replace EZdrummer 1? If I must reassign outputs when I open old projects, that is not “effortless”. Since my older projects were created with only 8 channels of EZdrummer, I don’t need EZdrummer 2 to create new channels and cause problems. If it were truly “effortless”, the update wouldn’t create any additional work.
I am a huge fan of EZdrummer 1 and Superior Drummer 2. I have owned and used both extensively for several years. EZdrummer 1 is so good, quick and easy that it’s on many, many projects in my files, including unfinished songs and client projects. I want very much to upgrade to EZdrummer 2, but will not until the problem with existing Sonar projects is solved.
Yes, there is unfortunately an issue with Sonar and multiple outputs. I know that Toontrack HQ has tried to communicate several times with Cakewalk to get info what has changed on the Sonar side to be able to adjust for that on the Toontrack side of things, so there will be a fix when Toontrack gets info on that.

I’m having a similar issue in Reaper. The audio from my existing EZdrummer tracks is messed up since I upgraded, and I can’t figure out any way to fix it.
Hi micwalt,
I saw your other post and as I wrote there, it seem like your Reaper Project got corrupt somehow. We haven’t had any reports of Reaper users experiencing what Sonar X users have.
