    Great man, cheers!

What’s the difference between Retail and Webshop please?

I can’t speak specifically to what Toontrack means on their website or ads, but I’ve bought a lot of their products…
In my experience, Webshop refers to Toontrack‘s online store
and Retail would refer other 3rd-party owned stores; online, brick-and-mortar, etc. from whom Toontrack is only a supplier,
    like GuitarCenter or Amazon.

    Thanks very much indeed.

I am new here so am getting used to the terminology of ToonTracks.

I need to work out whether it is the EZX’s I would be most suited to or the MIDI packs?

    Well, Paul…
In terms of the products that Toontrack offers currently (and again, to clarify, I do not speak for Toontrack),
MIDI pack add-ons are NOT sound samples libraries. They are NOT drum kit confgurations.
They are NOT mixer presets. http://www.toontrack.com/midi-packs/
MIDI pack add-ons are some of the best drum grooves & performances played by some of the best players in the world.

The EZX expansions are collections of sound sample libraries recorded on the best drum kits in the best studios around the world.
They represent the style, essence and ambiance of that studio hosting an appropriate selection of drum kit pieces
sampled at a sometimes remarkable series of velocities with that studio’s characteristic microphones and preamps/consoles.
The EZX expansions also include a stylistic collection of MIDI grooves and fills.

    Thank you gseshleman,

Ok, so basically the MIDI packs are just the MIDI DATA which can be used to trigger whatever DRUM VST you open it with (Groove Agent, JamSticks, Batterie, etc), but contains no actual samples/sounds etc. Hence they are half the price! I have Groove Agent 3 but am happy to continue using this as a standalone in Cubase. (I was going to upgrade to Groove Agent for over Xmas but after trying out the free trial, I thought it was totally awful in every imaginable way!. A very bad move by Steinberg and there are many disappointed lifelong supporters who have decided to jump ship to another Drum VST manufacturer. After much research I finally chose EzD2).

Anyway gseshleman, in which case I think the EZX format is most suited to me (rather than the MIDI) I would hope you agree.

    Best,

I have bought plenty of both…
and would agree that the Expansion Sale prices are hard to resist
and harder still to justify purchasing only a MIDI pack where an EZX expansion is also available.

    Hi,

Mmm, yes. I can see your point. So do you think the EZX’s are best for me considering I will be using EZD2 as a stand-alone?

If you get an “extensive collection of MIDI library” with the EZX’s, then where please does it list each style/loop/pattern (call it what you will)?

I notice that you have some other EZ products. What is your main instrument please? Are u a drummer?

    Instrumentally, I play guitar.
As a tracking engineer, I love the quality and quantity of sounds that Toontrack has captured in each of the EZX’s.
But I also love the variety of MIDI grooves and find them inspiring as well.
You don’t have to be Sherlock to deduce from your signature that you’re a keyboardist.

Except for the Songwriter’s MIDI Packs, the style for the entirety of the MIDI included with each EZX expansion
is pretty well stated in the name of the EZX expansion.
The loops & patterns are broken out in most as they are for the grooves provided with the EZD2 Modern/Vintage libraries
similarly described as Verse, Chorus, pre-Chorus, Fills, Intros, etc.

    Hi gseshleman,

I am much more of a ‘player’ than a ‘computer musician’. I have played professionally since around 1988 and used to program drum machines, sequencers, Korg M1 etc. But I find the VST method quite different and often somewhat daunting!

I just looked at the ‘Song Writing’ packs and I think they are MIDI DATA of SONG FORM and STRUCTURES (verse/chorus/intro etc)?

With the MIDI BUNDLES, there are 2/3 STYLES which I would never use contained in each package, and so the current stock are not ones which I would purchase at present.

What I meant regarding a breakdown of the material included on the EDX’s, was that (for instance) on the “POP/ROCK” EX, does it have (and is there a list of) ‘patterns’ in the way of :-

    Basic Pop – #1
    Basic Pop – #2
    Shuffle Pop – #1
    Shuffle Pop – #2
    Heavy 8’s – #1
    Heavy 8’s – #2
    Heavy 8’s – #3
    etc…………………….

    If you know what mean!?

    Cheers,

    Paul

Please don’t forget that EZDrummer2 allows you to preview any and all MIDI that is available through the Toontrack MIDI Web Shop
by clicking the “Show Web Shop MIDI” button atop the filter window on the SEARCH tab.

    Hi gseshleman,

Is this “Show Web Shop MIDI” only accessible (from) if you have (open) one of the EZ2D packages, because I can not find this anywhere on the general website? I think this is the case?

Unless I am going blind! lol

The “Show Web Shop MIDI” option is available on the [SEARCH] tab of the EZDrummer2 interface as shown in the image posted above.
You don’t need an actual open web browser window but you will of course need an active internet connection
so that EZD2 can access the Toontrack Webshop for the previews of the MIDI you have not purchased.

Cheers, ok so I can’t view it at the moment as my EZ2D software won’t be arriving until early next week.

I thought the MIDI packs were also in the sale but I think they are still 25 Euros each? I seem to remember hearing/reading somewhere that they were currently reduced to 19 Euros?

    Hi,

The eBay shop sent me a non-DVD copy of EzD2, and no Promo-Code either for the Pop/Rock kit! I double-checked with them the details before making the purchase. So now I might have to open a ‘dispute’ because I paid them the money about 10 x days ago!

    Paul

UPDATE :- The seller thought that Ez2D was a DVD until I reported the concern. The store spoke to ToonTracks who informed them that it has never been available as a hard copy (just a box with a ‘product code). And the Pop/Rock kit freebie is downloaded via the website once you have activated Ez2D.

I just spoke to seller who offered me a refund (but I need to check with eBay in case I have to pay shipping costs to return the item (empty box!). And then in turn purchase/download directly from the ToonTracks Shop. Not sure what the best decision to make is though? If I had known the eBay product was not a hard-copy, then I would have simply purchased the download version from ‘TT’ two weeks ago!

    Cheers,

    Paul
