I am interested in purchasing EZ Drummer. I want to record the midi with triggers from an acoustic drum kit, and process it with ez drummer software. Do i need to run it into the software in realtime, or can i just record the straight midi to my DAW and run it through the software later to add the drum sounds. I’m not sure how this all works. I’m new to the triggering bandwagon.

Hi,
this works well, this also give you the opportunity to examine note triggers, in case you do not follow any of the preset MIDI Layout maps, like e.g. Roland, Alesis or Yamaha.
EZdrummer 2 has input presets but you cannot remap, like in Superior Drummer 3. If there’s any discrepancy between your input MIDI and the Input Presets, you can change this on your recorded MIDI track.

I’m completely new to this so bear with me…….I’m confused on the “midi layout map” thing you mentioned. Will i have to set my interface for a certain midi layout protocol or something like that, or is that something i will set with my DAW? I’m confused now…haha.
Hi Matthew,
sorry I missed your reply.
What I mean with the MIDI Layout is that different manufacturers map the instruments slightly different across the keyboard, so e.g. the note number for a Ride Cymbal Bell on one manufacturer’s module may trigger something else on another module brand.
If you e.g. use a Roland module when triggering, you go to Settings > E-drums > MIDI Mapping and select the Roland Preset in EZdrummer 2.
This would take care of most of the setup but if something is deviating from the standard, like e.g. 2 Kick drums, 6 Toms or 6 Cymbals, you can change this in your DAW after you have recorded your MIDI.
