Drum / Midi editing interface

I’m watching some videos online. Is there an easier interface for editing individual drum parts than in Garage band? I noticed some guys online are using programs and on the left instead of the piano keys, which mean nothing unless you hit them, they are labeled as per the drum sound (snare, tom, etc….)

What else besides garage band makes this process a little easier?
