I have only owned EZ Drummer 2 for a day now, and haven’t been able to ascertain all that it does yet, but in using the Song Creator feature by dragging a MIDI part into it, it recommends a bunch of MIDI grooves categorized into song parts. It’s a great feature, but I wasn’t sure if it was procedurally creating unique grooves each time I do this, or is it just selecting grooves from the list of what MIDI grooves I own in my account across all the MIDI packs and EZX packs?
It occurred to me that it might be just selecting from what I own because if I take each song part and right-click and select “Find > Show in Browser”, every single time it always points to a specific groove from the list of all the ones I own.
And if that’s all it does, then does buying more EZX packs and MIDI packs mean that the Song Creator feature will find more and better matches since it has more grooves to choose from?
(And a side question, do any of the MIDI packs include grooves that are duplicates of what’s included in any EZX packs? Or do all the MIDI packs contain unique grooves that you can only get in them? I find the store a little confusing in this regard because some of the MIDI packs have the same names as some of the EZX packs, and I wasn’t sure if those MIDI packs are the same grooves that come with the EZX packs or if they are unique)
Hi,
1) it finds grooves that you have in your library, it does not create new ones
2) yes, with a bigger library, the Song Creator will have more to choose from
3) no duplicates unless clearly stated on the product’s page. I.e. if a MIDI pack is from an EZX or SDX, it will be a note about it at the top of that MIDI Pack’s product page.

Thanks for answering all of my questions, I’ve seen you answering questions all over this forum in my brief time perusing so far, so I’m impressed with the attention that you give each question, it’s very helpful and I knew asking here would get my questions all cleared up!
I now see exactly what you mean in regards to question 3, for instance:
https://www.toontrack.com/product/metal-machine-midi/
Says “Please note that this is the same MIDI as included in the Metal Machine EZX.”
So as long as the MIDI pack doesn’t say something like that, it’s all unique grooves, which is good to know.
I have a question, I may need to ask in a separate thread because it’s totally unrelated to the questions I already asked here, but I was hoping for a recommendation on both an EZX and any applicable MIDI packs that would help me get drum & bass / industrial metal / EBM feels? I’m having trouble identifying which expansions would fit those styles…
I too was curious where the song parts were created from, but that leads me to ask another question. Does EZDrummer 2 only pull from EZDrummer files as a source to populate the song parts? After initially reading this, it prompted me to view the source files in the browser and all the files I looked at originated from EZDrummer based files, even tho the original source file was Groove Monkee. I use other companies files as well as user modified files and haven’t seen EZDrummer pull song parts from any other source. Just curious. I still like (in most cases) the pallet of song parts offered.
The Song Creator requires information that only Toontrack MIDI has, like what song part it belongs to (Verse, Chorus, etc.).
You can drag a file to Tap2Find to find similar sounding grooves, and if you drag something from Groove Monkee, you’ll probably get similar sounding grooves. You can use those in your song, or right click a groove and select Show In Browser, and then pick any suiting grooves from there…
