    Hi Skiltrip,
I have been trying to prioritize my 6-pack all day. I have read your other posts, and I think we share some of the same music creation aesthetics.

My first pack will probably be Henderson (bass beetle, vocal lennon, and the electric piano settings are of primary interest.) Also, out of the 11 that you posted that you already have, I am looking at 9 of them myself. (I plan to get another 6 pack later this month.)

I have 11 picked out in all, and Dirt made it in – not even in last place.

I have listened to the MGG demos and watched the Toontrack videos made by the guitar players. They seem like nice guys, but I don’t own a 7-string guitar, nor can I play like them, even if I wanted to. I think this is what ultimately turns me off to this package. Dirt keeps the versatility and variety in play for me. So, that is why I would choose it over MGG.

So far my want list is this (mostly in order):

    Henderson (purchased, woo hoo!)
    Songwriter’s
    Vocal
    Mastering
    Amps
    Drums
    Lead Vocals
    Alternative
    Ainley
    Dirt
    Rock
    ???

When it comes time for me to fill in the last spot (???), I’m sure I will be hesitant to make that final choice like you.

    Hope this helps.

That helps a lot actually. When someone confirms things my inner voice has been thinking it solidifies it. I do already have a ton of guitar amp sims between ampire XT (when in Studio One), Amp Designer (when in Logic), Scuffham S-Gear (excellent lo to mid gain), Kuassa Creme (excellent high gain stuff), and all the other amp presets I already have in EZmix.

Dirt at least could prove useful in many situations.

Then there’s always the option to just save that last license for whatever comes next down the road.

For you, based on what you have already, and what I have already, I’d take a look at Dorfsman. To me, its a nice compliment to Henderson in a lot of ways. I can’t remember particularly which presets I liked but I was impressed on my initial run through.

Good luck, and Enjoy. I think Dirt is calling my name. I’ll just be sad if the next release is called Indie Rock. I guess then I’ll be getting yet another 6 pack.

    Have fun.

Dirt makes more sense if you got all those amp sim options.
6 Packs still 79 at AD!
Got 6 to register, Needham and Ainlay goin toe to toe for the last slot
The loser will join Bergstrand Metal on the bench. And if AD maintain that price, will pick them up in the next round.

Thanks for the input. I think Dirt will soon find a home in my collection.

I will vouch for Ainlay. its terrific. I don’t have Needham but it just looked very un-enticing based on the preset list on the Toontrack site. I wasn’t sure I’d like Ainlay, as its one of the EZmix 1packs, but its top notch and very usable stuff.

I did forget to mention in my previous post that I already have the Dorfsman pack.

It was the only add-on that I purchased prior to my 6-pack. It is really good! Otherwise, it would have been in my top 6 for sure.

ALSO SKILTRIP: I noticed that you’ve got both the Vocals and the Lead Vocals packs. Both are on my list as well. Could you comment on how they compare? I would be interested to know if, in your opinion, one is more suited to “1 guy singing/playing all parts of all songs in his little bedroom studio” than the other….

Or, if they are, indeed, different enough that both packs are necessary…

I will likely get my 2nd 6-pack before the month is up, and finish my list from above. But…..

I would REALLY dig it if there was some kind of MIDI sale (as awesome as the EZ Mix sale) happening…..
I know of 4 or 5 packs that I have been wanting for some time….

    Thanks in advance,

In regards to Vocals vs Lead Vocals, I think as with all these presets, they all compliment each other. Sure, you could live with one or the other, but they just bring more colors to your palette basically. Lead Vocals, as it’s name implies, does aim more toward the lead vocals, whereas there are plenty of backing vocal presets in the older Vocals pack. But again, like with all this stuff, you can apply any preset to anything, regardless of the name and it may or may not work for you.

For me, I still can’t decide between Dirt and Metal Guitar Gods. I go back and forth in my head. I wish there was a way to buy a 3-pack or something instead of a 6-pack. Because I certainly don’t need 6 more, but with another 3-pack, I could pick up the Rock and Staub one as well just for kicks. Anybody wanna split a 6-pack? lol.

After a long hard battle, Metal Guitar Gods won in the end!

I’m actually delighted about how versatile these guitar tones are for all things rock. I went in just expecting to shred a little for old times sake, but I ended up finding not only great metal tones, but sounds that are very much at home in power pop, general hard rock, and even bluesy stuff. MGG really is a terrific expansion pack.

I will take advantage of that six pack deal soon, but through Sweetwater.

I have decided to go with these 5:

    Metal guitar gods
    Amps
    Mixing tool box
    Mastering I
    Mastering II

However, for the final one I am stuck between “Metal” and “Metal Essentials.”
    Any input between the two?

These are just the 6 I will start with. If I really like what I can do with it, and enjoy working with it, then I will probably buy more expansions.
