Hey I have just purchased EZD through the toontrack site, and afterward I was looking up some tips and tricks and found a link to sweetwater where it is sold for $50US, around a third of the price I paid.
I understand that retailers etc. will generally sell for less and normally I don’t mind dealing direct even so, but when I find that I have paid 3x the price compared to elsewhere with no difference in product or support it kind of erks me.
Have I missed something? Is there a way to get a refund at this point? (I purchased it today) because at the moment I have a bad taste in my mouth.
I know it’s my fault for not shopping around, I just would never have picked such a huge price disparity, as I normally make purchases of physical guitar related gear and shopping around will generally only get you 10%-20% off, which isn’t such a huge deal. I guess it will be a learning experience for me in plugin purchases. Do other products have a similar situation?
We rarely or never have any promos or discounts at our website, we always keep the list price. In rare occasions, we may have promos but in those cases we make sure to let you all know about it. The reason is simply we don’t want to compete with our retailers as a courtesy to them. Download purchases are never refundable except in rare cases, such as when customer accidentally buy two identical products instead of one or when a customer by mistake buys something that he already owns.

Hi Martin, thanks for clarifying this. I have another related question:
I am planning on purchasing EZ Drummer via another site such in order to get a lower price. Are there any sites you suggest? Do you guys suggest Sweetwater or Amazon?
Thanks,
Carlos
No, we can’t really suggest one dealer over another (for the same reason, we want to keep good relations with all of them). Both Sweetwater and Amazon are good and reliable dealers.

Hi Martin,
I understand all of this, but when your list price is 3x the price you can find elsewhere it is getting well past the point of “not wanting to compete with retailers” and starts to look like “lets try and dupe a few people into overpaying, whilst still achieving a high sales volume by allowing a far lower price elsewhere”. Not saying that those are your intentions, but that’s the way I feel about the experience.
As mentioned in the original post I am used to scenarios where the street prices are 2/3 the list, not situations where it is 1/3 the list. Normally I don’t mind buying direct as the manufacturer generally gets a fair end of the bargain, but this seems off the rails.
Anyway I won’t bother you anymore, thanks for your explanation.
Its more a matter of consistency. These prices are consistent on TT’s site.
You will find dealers on Ebay who sell the older titles cheaper, but never the most recent items at 1/3 the price.
They” the dealers ” do fluctuate a fair bit but hey lets just be happy if we are patient kids we can save on the odd item.
My point is you find the deals on products that are past there initial release phase on the “specials” and TT just keeps them at their original price,no biggie.
I think using the term Dupe is harsh.I understand the rest of your point but please be fair to the guys they do fantastic work.
You do see the poor sod’s point though? It would leave a thoroughly bad taste in my mouth if this had hapened to me.
Nobody thought of trying to sweeten him at all? -especially when the TT business model thrives on customers purchasing further libraries?
Just an idea…

I am sure 80% of us paid full ticket on EZDrummer.

Sorry I didn’t mean to offend anyone, I was just trying to get my point of view across. Looking back on the post it seems far more aggressive than intended, my apologies. In fact if I have a good experience using the software this won’t prevent me from buying again, though I will take a look at the competition. Also if I had been given a refund I would have bought an expansion pack, and still have saved money.

I did a 10 second search to see if this is true (on Sweetwater at least) and I couldn’t see that pattern appearing, new expansion packs are the same as old ones.

I don’t have any way to test this one, but it seems highly unlikely that 80% of their sales are through their own site. I think you’ll find it’s closer to 8% than 80%, but I doubt we will get a conclusive answer.
Again sorry if my last post came off as aggressive, this was not my intention.
Cheers,
Rupert
Just use Google.
There are lots of online retailers and their specials come and go on a monthly basis.
Time & Space are doing a killer deal on Superior for example.

If you base your thoughts on “now only” yes for sure that would be right ,
to be clear i really meant EZDrummer purchased around the time of it’s release was its boom time.
I dont think to many dealers or deals were around till quite awhile later certainly not like it is now, especially to the whole world market.Perhaps not the States.
Rupert i wasn’t meaning to hassle you at all just though it was harsh to say “duped” , i do understand you feelings ,the software world and online shopping has broken down the normal way things are done, i hope you take advantage of whats out there and get some nice Low price Expansions to Juice up your arsenal.
Google “Audio Deluxe”. I always check around for prices, but end up going with them every time. Sign up for an account and they will mail you every couple of days with member only, 24hr deals. One deal had 3 EZX for $75 for 24hrs only.
Yeah, I just picked up NY 2, C&V, and Metal Foundry SDX’s on that same deal for ~$190, which at $63 apiece is $17 less than their normal discounted price and $87 apiece less than list. Would have cost $450 total at TT.
I wish audiodeluxe would sell the Superior presets. I hate paying much for knob tweaking. On the other hand, I’ve gotten pretty decent at doing it myself.

fizbin,
I used the 3EZX code twice to get 6 of the buggers.
Time and space sell producer presets lower than the TT site IF you are exempt from VAT. their midi’s are also better priced
Best service is comparable to Audiodeluxe (ex VAT) on SDX when non promo (maybe cheaper if their postage is lower, depends where u at), they have good pricing on the 2012 ezmix add ons as well, close to the old price(staub, dirt, master, core only).
