Did I buy the wrong external SSD?

Hey guys, i’d like to buy superior drummer 3 but i have some concerns, maybe you can help me out here:

i got a 2019 16 inch macbook pro with 500 gb internal storage, so if i should buy superior drummer 3 i would like to move the sound library on my external drive.

My concern is: i bought the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 2tb, but as i wanted to run spectrasonics trilian bass on it, trilian would run extremely slow or rather freeze. On the internal hd, trilian runs perfectly fast. Did i maybe buy the wrong ssd?
I’d be glad if anybody could help me here. Thanks in advance.

S3 runs totally from RAM and not disc streaming. Does Trillian stream from disc or does it get totally loaded into RAM? The only thing a better/faster hard drive helps with is load time. Once the samples are loaded into RAM or really doesn’t matter.
