I was reading the latest toon track blogs and I was informed that Toontrack pioneered the multi-sampled drum library. I didn’t realize that. (Pretty cool!)
Also I remembered that I bought the original DKFH for use in Logic EXS (or Halion, which I no longer use). Those samples rocked!!!
Anyway, on to the present, I have begun to use the DFH 1 as my main expansion. There seems to be fewer velocity layers so the drums always hit hard!
I couldn’t explain it, but the recent libraries always felt great when auditioning…ultra-realistic and satisfying to play, but when I listened to certain songs that needed an edgy “in your face” crack and thump I always spent a lot of time tweaking and exchanging drum pieces.
So a few weeks ago I loaded up DFH 1 and WOW!!!! I had forgotten how these drums sat in the mix. Mind you the music I am currently producing is rock/hip hop and funk. (For the jazz/blues and country stuff the other libraries are great). Anyway with TMF I noticed the added dynamic sensitivity and the overall improvements, but when I need that hard hitting drum sound the Superior 1 library is the “go-to” right now, for me.
So I say this to say, Toontrack, you guys really know how to make drum samples come to life!
regards,
Myron
