Chokeing E-Cymbals

First thing you have to do is pick up some membrane switches. It took alot of searching to come up with these. They are made by Tapeswitch Corp.
(631)630-0442 and don’t come cheap. They run at a little over $16 each and there is a $50 minimum.
Pictured are the 8oz #121(black) and 12oz #101 (yellow). You can get them in assorted colors (I didnt know that when I ordered the yellows). I like the 12oz best myself. The side view (bottom of pic) shows the thickness, about three sixteenths of an inch.You can have them made any length you like.
I used eight inches for this application.
I mount them about 1/4″ from the edge on each end using double sided tape (clean them cymbal and switch well so it will stick securely). If you happen to have the Visu-lite chokeables (which simply don’t work with the Roland modules) just wire the switch into the outside two speaker type terminals as shown. Now they are Roland compatable, simple.
If you are using Pintechs, Harts, or any other nonchokeable cymbal all you have to do is remove the mono 1/4″ plug and change it to a stereo plug.
Solder the switch wires to the small ring and the large ring and the cymbals piezo wires to the large ring and tip teminals. Don’t forget to use a stereo cable.
