I’m really glad I got this kit… Yamah seems to have updated the ‘Special’ to include the RHH135 which is pressure sensitive and feels like a real hi-hat.
The only down side is the kick pad… I think it’s probably designed for one pedal, not two. Sometimes a two-pedal flam will only register as a single hit which can get very annoying. Might look to upgrade in the future.
The real benefit with this kit though is that I can add an extra 3 single-zone pads if I want… the cheapest pads from yamaha are only £35 in the UK (plus stand costs ~£30).
SD2 triggering was very easy to set up, including the Hi Hats and I like the HH adjustment for ‘More Open’ or ‘More Closed’ etc. I would like to have seen more example kits though, especially using the 10″ snare. The example kits don’t seem to compress the snare or kick pedals enough and when playing them at louder volumes, I was getting popping sounds through my headphones… (I’m using a Presonus Firebox + Sennheiser HD595s). The only way I could remedy this was to compress the sounds.
I’m working on a more difficult track now, and have been continually ‘tweaking’ the sound from the kit.
Definitely recommend it though.
Very nice. Good drumming.
I’m also using a yamaha ekit triggering sd2.0 (dtxtremeiis).
My hihat is the older rhh130. I’m not entirely satisified with it: the open/closed range is very limited. Thinking of getting one like yours…
Very nice and nice playing. Your HH response rocks
I’m like the other guy with the RHH130 hats
I get a ride bell occasionally and some of the edge hits are not there. Still trying to get around all the setups on the HH.
What is the best trigger setup for the module??
Are any of these user custom kit files posted ?
maybe that will get me closer
Great job! I am not a drummer but songwriter that plays guitar. I have SD2.2 and am planning to buy an edrum setup so I can have a drummer come over and lay down some “real” drum tracks rather than my using grooves or programming in some beats using pads. I have been looking at everything from the alesis USB to the Roland TD12. Big difference in price. The yamaha seems to be middle ground as far as price and performance.
I am now leaning towards the yamaha. How hard was it to set up. . . . .remember I am not a drummer. I would like to get it all set up pretty well before calling in a drummer and hopefully have a clue to tweak it to his taste and style.
Does the yamaha do cymbal chokes?
