    Hi,

    from the 3.1.5 release notes:

Roland e-drum presets now support positional sensing on the ride (if the module/setup supports it). Decades and newer SDXs support this.

    Hi John

Thanks for your reply – can you link to any more info in terms of what sort of resolution this positional sensing has in SD3? i.e. is it distinct samples per zone (if so, how many different zones are sampled/configurable?), or is there some kind of more intelligent weighted blending of samples to provide better articulation for different areas on the ride?

I’ve been looking for more technical information about the positional sensing support and how nuanced the articulations are but I’m struggling to find much – I want to make sure if I shell out for SD3 then I’ll be able to make the most of the hardware I have.

    Cheers

I suppose what I’m asking is – how many different ride articulations are there?

Well, if we talk about the Decades SDX, the Ride has got the following articulations sampled:

    Bow Tip 2
    Bow Tip 2
    Bow Shank
    Bell Tip
    Bell Shank
    Edge

and also mute Hits and Mute Tails.

When it comes to the Ride CC support, you can set up 1-3 Zones in the E-drums settings.
You decide which articulation goes to which Zone and how “big” the Zone is with the sliders.
    SD3_E-drums
How many different notes you send and how the Zones are set up defines which and how many articulations you can trigger from your Ride.

    John

    Hi,

i join your post as i am struggling with the cymbal dampening and choke adjustment in Superior Drummer 3. With my C 18DR in the TD 27 i get a smooth dampening when i touch the bow soft and get a cymbal choke when i grab it harder, like in real world. Is there any chance to transmit this behaviour in Superior Drummer 3?

    This would be awesome 😉

    all the best, Sebastian

I am also trying to figure this out and Toontrack staff won’t answer this question directly in ANY of the threads on here. It’s maddening
