I posted a message to support a few weeks back to share my experience buying my first SDX pack, Custom and Vintage SDX (shared below at the bottom of this post). Since then, I’ve thought of a way the programmers could add in snare rimshot playing functionality (with Roland TD-17KVX) as it works in the core library for SD3, and adding a rim click articulation, too. Currently, when playing the rim shot articulation with eDrums, only a rim click can be heard.
This method I’ve found effectively creates a ‘free’ rimshot by stacking a centre and existing ‘rimshot’ articulation – which is actually a rim click – while also keeping the open snare and rim click sounds available as independent articulations. I have noticed that rimshots are actually generated by combining these latter two sounds in SD3, and that a ‘rim click’ is not an available articulation type when playing with eDrums.
I have tested this myself as a manual kind of hack, but it would be great if this feature were added as standard for all snares by the software designers.

Original message to support:
“I recently bought the Custom and Vintage SDX, my first expansion pack for SD3. Though the sound quality is pleasing overall, I was disappointed to find that the way the pack works with eDrums is different to the core SD3 library. Rimshots, for instance, are triggered by hitting both the rim and the snare head at the same time with the Custom pack. However, in SD3, there is a seperate articulation for the rimshot. This means that I cannot play rimshots with my Roland TD-17 kit with Custom and Vintage, unlike with the core library. It is also disappointing that the range of articulations is far less than the core library. So, for example, on the hi-hats, I cannot tightly close the hihat to trigger a short and attack-y hi hat hit.
Overall, I feel that this pack is closer to an EZ Drummer library pack, and I am surprised that the functionality is not equivalent to the core library, making the SDX packs an inconsistent experience. I am less likely to purchase more now that I have been a little burned by this first one.”
